Tla-o-qui-aht Registry (Membership Department) is responsible for maintaining the registry listing of all Tla-o-qui-aht members. One employee manages and operates this very important function of the Nation, the IRA Clerk (Indian Registry Administrator).
The main function of this role is maintain the membership listing. This includes registering events such as births, deaths, marriages, and further can involved members transferring out or others transferring in.
A specific criteria must be met to qualify for membership. An application process is in place, and this further involves review from amembership committee, and in the final steps goes to the Elected Chief & Council for final review. After which the process must be sent and registered with AANDC (Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada). Each events in a members life has to be registered and documented with AANDC.

IRA Services/Procedures - Documents to go to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
REGISTRATION (FOR STATUS) -
What you will need: Long form birth certificate, 2 pieces of identification, signature of parents.
SOCIAL WORKER APPLICATION OF CHILD/REN ON BEHALF OF TLA-O-QUI-AHT –
What you will need: Social Worker application, long form birth certificate, signatures of parents or court documents stating guardianship.
APPLY FOR CIS STATUS CARDS –
What you will need: Two (2) pieces of identification.
SCIS CARDS - Five/Ten-year SCIS Application
What you will need: 2 pieces of photo ID or 1 piece of photo identification accompanied with a Guarantor Form.
REGISTRATION OF A BIRTH -
What you will need: Long form birth certificate, application form, signature of parent(s).
MEMBERSHIP TRANSFER -
What you will need: Application to transfer (to and from) Tla-o-qui-aht, letter to the Membership Committee which shows applicant’s connection to Tla-o-qui-aht.
DEATH OF A COMMUNITY MEMBER -
What you will need: Death certificates sent to ISC for the purpose of ISC update of registry information and estate purposes.
ESTATES -
What you will need: Assistance with sending death certificates for the purpose of estates and transfers of estates. A death certificate must be sent into ISC for estate transfers and for ISC to contact next-of-kin regarding estates.
